RoboCup@Home 2018 Social Standard Platform League

Call for Participation



The second RoboCup@Home Social Standard Platform League (RoboCup@Home SSPL) competition will be held at RoboCup 2018 in Montreal, Canada.

Teams willing to participate in RoboCup@Home 2018 must submit the qualification material as described below. Teams may also apply to purchase up to two robots at the RoboCup conditions described in

1. Submission of the qualification material

Qualification material includes

  • Link to video
  • Technical Paper

The qualification material must be sent to the Selection Committee as described below.

October 15, 2017 23:59 PST


3. Instructions for the e-mail

E-mail must be sent in the following format.

4. Instructions for the Website


The information to be placed on the website should include the following:

    Team members
    Description of the approaches and information on scientific achievements
    Relevant publications (last 5 years, preferably with links for download)
    Relevant photos/videos that show the skills of the team
    Link to repositories with software for the community
    Previous participations in RoboCup
    Contribution to RoboCup@Home organization

The Website should be designed for a broader audience.


5. Instructions for the Video

The qualification video must clearly demonstrate the abilities of the robot in solving typical @Home tasks (e.g., tests in recent RoboCup@Home rulebooks). Videos showing performance in previous competitions are preferred.
New teams are allowed to submit videos showing RoboCup@Home capabilities with different robotic platforms.


6. Instructions for the Technical Paper (TP)

The qualification material must be a PDF file based on the official league Team Description Paper (TDP) template.  The length is limited to 8 pages. Please use the Springer LNAI format used in the RoboCup Symposium submissions.

The TP must contain the following information:
    Description of the approach used to solve RoboCup@Home challenges
    Innovative technology and scientific contribution
    Focus of research/research interests
    Re-usability of the system for other research groups
    Applicability of the approach in the real world
    Implementation details: list of externally available components that are planned to be implemented,
                                          Open source software, web services, etc.


The Technical Paper should go into details about the technical and scientific approach used by the team.


7. Evaluation criteria

The Proposals will be evaluated with the following criteria:
   
    1) Capabilities of the robot
        Results in previous competitions (International and Regional) and video showing robot capabilities
        relevant for @Home.
   
    2) Scientific quality of Technical Paper
        Clarity, scientific contributions, re-usability by the league, applicability in real world, relevant scientific publications.

    3) Effective Dissemination through the Website
        Multimedia, publications from past 5 years, downloadable content, open-source software and other contributions

    4) Contribution to RoboCup@Home
        Participation to Exec/TC/OC committes, volunteer referee, active discussion within the community, etc.


8. Important notes for teams applying to purchase Pepper robots

Teams selected to receive Pepper robots have to make an agreement with the supplier in compliance with the supplier's instructions.

The suppliers are not allowed to sell, export, lease and/or ship their products to natural or legal persons and to entities and countries which are subject to international sanctions or prohibitions. Since Selection Committee cannot answer this issue, please ask the supplier directly.
